NARA and EDUCATION

For many years, NARA has worked to educate the media, the public, and lawmakers on the value of human care licensing and regulation to protect children and vulnerable adults.  We believe that, as a part of this educational effort, we are also obligated to assure the professionalism of those working in our field.   Consequently, NARA has developed educational products and opportunities for professional development in the many disciplines of regulatory work.

The NARA Annual Licensing Seminar, held each fall, provides administrators, researchers, attorneys, line staff, and university faculty an opportunity to learn from one another and from experts in the field of regulation.  Networking and sharing ideas and new data makes this a "must attend" event.

The NARA Licensing Curriculum is the only comprehensive course in the fundamentals of licensing.  Written by practitioners for practitioners, the twelve chapters cover the history of licensing, formulation of rules, phases of licensing, balanced use of authority, provider support services, enforcement, investigation and evidence, managing complaints, administrative appeals, suppressing illegal operations, measurement tools and systems, and ethics.   This curriculum can be taught by in-house trainers or agencies may contract with NARA to conduct the training with approved faculty, discounted text books, certificates, and Continuing Education Units for participants.

NARA offers agencies Consulting Services tailored to specific needs such as workload assessments; review of administrative policies and procedures and licensing enforcement systems; design and implementation of efficient licensing measurement systems and automation systems; operational analyses of the licensing program; review and revision assistance with licensing rules; research; and assistance with quality rating systems.  Call NARA with your agency's particular needs.
